Four shops and flats. 1912 with mid and late C20 alterations. By
Gelder & Kitchen of Hull. Yellow brick, with ashlar front and
dressings, roof not visible. Three grouped ridge and single corner
stacks. Baroque Revival style. Three storeys; 4x2 windows. Corner
site with splayed corner topped with a heavily buttressed
ashlar dome with finial. Main front has a giant order of
paired Ionic columns carrying an entablature with modillion
cornice. Above it, a balustrade with pedestals supported by
volutes. Four tripartite glazing-bar sashes, the central one with
a large double keystone, and above, four transomed Diocletian
windows. Below, four shop fronts with late C20 alterations and
common fascia cornice with brackets. Angled corner, to right,
has a glazing-bar sash on the upper floors, the first-floor
one with a double keystone. Right return, of similar design,
has to left two partly reglazed sashes and above, a Diocletian
window. To right, a single sash on each upper floor. Below, three
small segment-headed windows. To right, a brick block, two
storeys; 5-window range.

Nos 614-620 were built as a shop for William Jackson and Son, grocers and confectioners. Jacksons owned the largest chain of grocery stores in Hull and the East Riding.
