9/19 Farmhouse at Home Farm

GV II

House. C16 with mid C19 additions. Timberframed one and a half
storeys, plastered hall- house,facing E, with 2 storeys cross
wing on S, projecting to rear. Steep old red tile half-hipped
roofs. Basketwork pargetting with palmette band at floor level
and single fleur-de-lis in panels over windows. C19 W range
added parallel to hall with small NW gabled 2 storeys cross wing,
to form a square plan, with recessed centre on W where wooden
brackets carry the wall plate in imitation of a 'wealden house'.
External plaster-work decoration carried over C19 parts, and a
C19 wooden casements, with dripboards over, fitted generally.
Canted, tile roofed, bay window on W and similar oriel, and lean-
to enclosed porch on E. Large central chimney in middle of older
cross wing, with 2 tall red brick square shafts joined by
projecting cap. Exposed posts and tie beams on 1st floor in
cross wing and hall range. Stair on N side of chimney, altered
in C19. Large C19 chimney on W with 3 square shafts imitating
older chimney.
