ST 77 NE TORMARTON C.P. MARSHFIELD ROAD (west side)

6/282 Barn about 15 metres south east of
Lower Lapdown Farmhouse

Barn. Mid C18 origin, retiled 1889 (dated on front cart entry) with later
alterations. Limestone rubble with stone dressings and quoins, rendered right
return, stone tiled roof with raised coped verges and ball finials to gables.
Cruciform plan. North elevation has high gabled cart entry with timber lintel
and relieving arch, lean-to to left and right, roof missing to left, window to
right, inner wall of cart entry has door to right and left with timber lintel and
relieving arch, leading to lean-tos. Right return has loading door to right with
cambered head, left return has owl hole in gable. Rear has high gabled cart
entry as on front, ventilation slit to right and corrugated iron lean-to, blocked
ventilation slit to left. Interior: 5-bay roof with tie-beam, principal rafters
and 2 rows of purlins, of C20, 2 bays to each cart entry of similar construction.
