Roughly translated as 'Here lies the noble Lady Matilda, formerly Lady Willughby, once wife of Robert, Lord of Willughby, knight, and blood-related and heir of the illustrious Lord Ralph formerly Lord Cromwell, knight, founder of this College and a special benefactor of this college, who died the 30th day of August in the year of our Lord 1497, on whose soul may the almighty God have mercy. Amen'
