SY 49 NE NETHERBURY MELPLASH

7/139 Melplash School

GV II

Former School, now converted to house. 1849. Rubble stone walls and
ashlar dressings. Steep slate roofs. Stone gable-copings with roll-
moulded tops. Level kneelers with ogee-moulded soffits. Modillion
eaves cornice. Cross-wing to road. One and 1½ storeys. Side range
of 4-5 windows, 2-light cross-transomed ovolo-mullions with straight
label over. Front wall to road has a projecting half-dormer carried
down to the ground. Dormer window of 3-lights stepped up at the
centre, with label likewise. Stone tablet with 'Melplash School'.
Porch doorway on side wall, moulded jambs and a 4-centred head with
returned label over. 2-leaf plank-and-muntin door, C19. West wall
has a large 5-light mullion-and-transom window with returned label
over. Interior: Hammer-beam roof to school-room with arch-braces to
collar and queen-struts over.
