GV II

House, at one time public house. C17 core, C20 rear alterations. Slatestone
rubble pebbledashed on street front, pebbledash replacing whitewashed render.
Slate roof hipped at right end, half gable over cart entrance to right, brick
chimney at left end. Originally single depth with through passage and rear left
service room adjoining rear malthouse. Malthouse largely demolished 1984. Present
building extended into former Malthouse at rear under asbestos slate lean-to. 2-
storey 3½ window range with C20 flat-roofed off-centre glazed porch. All windows
to street 2-light casements, 8 panes per light. Former bar, ground floor room
right retains oak pub bench fixed to through passage wall. Timber doors to cart
entrance. Important position in the square, adjoining the Old Poorhouse. Included
for group value with the Old Poorhouse adjoining to left.
