Brass floor plaque to Elizabeth wife of Lancelot Dawes, 1748. The winged angels head at the top of the brass is intended to encourage the departed soul to fly heavenwards. This is contemporary with the nearby Vale of Belvoir tradition of carving angels on slate headstones. The verse -Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord- is often found on them. (Photo Sept 2007).
