Description

FRAMSDEN -
TM15NE
4/10021 Estate Cottages,
nos 109 and 110

GV II

Pair of cottages, cl840, perhaps to the designs of Anthony Salvin, who was
active at Helmingham Hall (qv) in c1841. Brick in Flemish bond with moulded
brick stack to the party wall. Pantile roofs with omamented vergeboards to
dormer and gables, and with slightly swept eaves. Two storeys with outshut
to rear. Entrances under four-centred arches to outer ranges, the unit to
right slightly projecting and gable facing, that to left with half dormer.
Ground-floor window to no. 110 with casement of an authentic design.
Picturesque style combining vernacular forms with those of the 'cottage orne'
tradition. Cottages 97-110, spanning the boundary between Framsden and
Helmingham, form a group.
