Description

FRAMSDEN -
TM15NE
4/10017 Estate Cottages,
nos 101 and 102

GV II

Pair of cottages, c1840, perhaps to the designs of Anthony Salvin, who was
active at Helmingham Hall (qv) in c1841. Brick in Flemish bond with moulded
brick stack to party wall. Pantile roofs with ornamental vergeboards to
facing gables paired at party wall and slightly projecting; slightly swept
eaves. Two storeys with outshut to rear. Entrances to outer ranges under
four-centred arches, and doors of an original design. First-floor windows
with casements of an original design. Picturesque style combining vernacular
forms with those of the 'cottage orne' tradition. Cottages nos 97-110,
spanning the boundary between Framsden and Helmingham, form a group.
