4/10011 Estate Cottages,
nos 99 and 100
GV II
Pair of cottages, c1840, perhaps to the designs of Anthony Salvin, who was
active at Helmingham Hall (qv) in c1841. Brick in Flemish bond with moulded
brick stack to party wall. Pantile roofs with ornamental vergeboards to pair
of gable-facing half dormers and gabled returns. Two storeys with outshut to
rear; bilaterally symmetrical with windows flanking party wall and entrances
in outer ranges, under four-centred arches; doors of an original design.
Ground-floor casement to no. 100 of an original design. Picturesque style
combining vernacular forms with those of the 'cottage orne' tradition. Cottages
97-110, spanning the boundary between Framsden and Helmingham, form a group.
