C1870 stock brick warehouse. Five bays, originally of 4 storeyes with a heavy, moulded,
bracketed cornice, but with 2 further storeys added, soon after first build, with
parapet coping. Central rank of glazed and panelled hatches in same reveal cutting
through cornice into added top floors. Flanking windows have guaged segmental arches
and iron framed small pane glazing. Elevation to wharf: similar but with deep rendered
band instead of cornice. Interior has timber floors, the beams supported by cross
section iron columns with console shaped flanges to caps and "shoe" heads housing the
beams. Altogether this and the warehouses covered by the next six entries: 'B' and 'C'
Warehouse, Metropolitan Wharf; 'D' Warehouse; Metropolitan Wharf; Jubilee Wharf; Nos 78
and 80 Lusks Wharf, lower Olivers Wharf; No 82, New Crane Wharf and 'E' 'F' 'G' and 'H'
Warehouse, New Crane Wharf (qv) form probably the most impressive warehouse group on the
quayside, once typical but now rare. The simple but effective architectural treatment
includes giant niches, pediments and Doric columns.
