4431 'B' and 'C' warehouse,

C1870-8O, main Metropolitan Wharf warehouse block. Six storeys stock brick with red
brick window arches. Eight bays including off centre ranks of hatches. Bed mould
to deep frieze inscribed with the name of wharf, heavy , modillion bracket moulded
cornice and parapet raised in 2 shallow pediment gables, containing oculi, over
each group of 4 bays. Hatches have small pane glazing and flush panels and are
contained in same reveal up to segmental arch on top floor. Both ranks retain
original pivoting iron hoists with linked circle bracing to spandrels. Windows, small
paned and iron framed have gauged red brick segmental arches. Similar elevation to
riverside wharf but the ground floors of both 'B' and 'C' are opened up with cast
iron columns, with flanges to Doric caps, bearing rivited girder entablature over 4
