Scissor forge in courtyard at No.23

GV II

Scissor forge. Mid C19. Brick with hipped slate roof with 2
large brick ridge stacks and 2 skylights. Moulded wooden
gutter on wooden brackets. Single storey; 4 x 4 windows.
Windows have chamfered blue brick sills. Entrance side, to
west, has three 3-light wooden glazing bar casements, and to
right, a board door. Right return has four 3-light metal
glazing bar casements. Rear has 3 similar casements and to
right, a 2-light casement and a rounded corner.
INTERIOR has 2 small forge hearths.
This building is a typical example of the specialised small
scale workshop characteristic of Sheffield.
