Gateway and Pavilions at entrance to

Gateway and pavilions. c1926. Ashlar with flat roofs. Plinth,
cornice and blocking course. Single storey; 6:6 windows.
In the centre 2 square gate piers with plinths and cornices,
topped with stylised eagles. Pair of wrought-iron gates. On
each side, a coped screen wall with wrought-iron gate.
Beyond, pavilions with curved fronts and flush-mullioned
windows, 2 and 3 lights. Nearest the centre, slightly
projecting bays with single oval windows with keystones and
enriched surrounds. The returns facing the entrance have 3
flush-mullioned windows. At the rear, the pavilions have a
central recess under a canopy, with 4 folding glazed doors,
and end bays with single windows.
The pavilions incorporate payboxes and pavilions for bowling
and putting greens, and toilets. This building is part of the
architectural scheme of a public park developed 1921-28 by Sir
Jesse Boot.
