House, now offices. Early C19, altered c1900. Red brick,
Flemish bond, stone details, slate roof, wrought-iron
railings. 3 storeys and basement, 3 bays. Panelled door with
fanlight in round brick arch to left and right, corniced bow
window between with 16-pane flanked by 12-pane sashes. Sashes
with glazing bars, rubbed brick flat arches, stone sill band
to 1st floor; 9-pane sashes to 2nd floor.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Basement railings have alternate wavy bars, pointed finials,
standards with fleur-de-lis finials.
Part of the row of houses built on the south side of York
Place, map evidence suggests between 1834 and 1850. The 1870
Directory indicates that No.20 was York House, the premises of
drapers, cloth and woollen merchants.
