Public house. Early C19, altered C20. Painted brick, tile roof. Two storeys, three bays to wide gabled frontage. Central board door with overlight, architrave with cornice. Flanking large windows in pilastered surrounds with cornice above, two four-pane sashes with stone sills and wedge lintels to first floor, band and coping forming pediment with oval window in stone surround, glazing bars painted. Brick ridge stack. Blocked doorway on right return, blind window above, wedge lintels to windows as front.

INTERIOR: panelled double outer doors, modern inner doors in narrow passage; public bar left retains wall benches, boarded walls and bar front, blocked fireplace. The entrance passage opens into replanned former hatch area (now bar end) with black, brown and white tiled floor (c1870) and two rooms now open-plan. Wall benches in the rear room which also retains cast-iron fireplace with raised decoration and basket grate. Straight flight stone steps to cellar which is brick-lined and vaulted, with barrel shute, wooden barrel stands and bottle shelves.

Rare survival of a roadside inn at an important road junction; Tong Road an important routeway between Leeds and Pudsey/Bradford.
