SE2633 TOWN STREET, Armley
714-1/32/501 (South side (off))
22/09/75 Roscoe Terrace, No.1
II
House. Late C17 with C18 alterations. Coursed gritstone,
low-pitched stone slate roof. 2 storeys with attic, 2 windows
wide on S side. Quoins. Entrance left of centre has a
half-glazed door, painted stone lintel, and a small circular
stone window to right. 4-light stone recessed chamfered
mullion windows, ground floor right 3 lights, casements. A
weathered date stone set into walling at 1st-floor lintel
height. The upper-floor windows set well below the eaves line.
Rear: plain stone surrounds and mullions with small-pane
sashes, 2 side-sliding sashes below eaves.
INTERIOR: reputed to have chamfered ceiling beams with
straight stops.
A very interesting house; the mullioned windows suggest a C17
farm house altered or rebuilt to accommodate perhaps a weaving
loft in the roof space (interior not seen); reputed to have
been the Cat and Fiddle Inn.
