Includes: No.31 Atlas House KING STREET.
Insurance offices, now premises of the Bank of Ireland. 1910.
By William Perkin and George Bulmer. Faced in Marmo.
4 storeys with attics, 11-bay corner site arranged
1:2:1:3:1:2:1. Rusticated ground floor, segmental-arched
entrances and round-arched windows with masks representing
races of the world on keystones. Segmental pediments to
1st-floor windows, deep modillion cornice above 2nd floor,
triangular pediments to 3rd floor and attics. A richly-moulded
facade dominated by a figure of Atlas on the corner.
Perkin and Bulmer also designed the Scottish Union and
INTERIOR: not inspected.
National Insurance Co premises at Nos 26 & 27 Park Row (qv),
also faced in Marmo manufactured by the Burmantofts Company.
RCHME records show that the building is of fireproof
construction (Kahn system), contractors W Nicholson and Son,
sculpture models by Thewlis and Co, etc.
