Monument to John Jay (1805-1872). White marble sarcophagus with an elaborate moulded cover, lions' feet and rich acanthus decoration to the corners. Jay was a leading City contractor and in 1840 he was the mason responsible for erecting the chapel at Abney Park Cemetery, designed by William Hosking and already listed. The sarcophagus may have been carved in Jay's own workshop.
