Entrance gateway to Merchant Taylors
School (Boys)

GV II

Entrance gateway to school grounds, comprising a set of 4
stone gate piers with gates. Probably c1878. Sandstone piers,
cast-iron gates. Large square piers with chamfered bases,
stop-chamfered corners, cavetto friezes with Tudor rose
enrichment and weathered pyramidal tops with small trefoil
lucarnes in each side. Double carriage gates and single
pedestrian gates with dog-bars, circular tracery top panels
and scrolled cresting. Forms group with associated entrance
lodge (qv) and main school building (qv).
