School (Boys)

GV II

Entrance lodge to school grounds. Probably c1878, and probably
by Lockwood and Mawson. Red brick in English bond with
sandstone dressings, graduated green slate roof with blue
slate fishscale bands. Tudor style. Elongated cruciform plan.
EXTERIOR: single storey, presenting a 1-window gable to the
drive; with a chamfered plinth, chamfered corners with pyramid
stops, and steeply-pitched roof with oversailing eaves and
verges. In the north-east angle formed by a north wing to the
main range is an open timber-framed porch which has a
pyramidal roof with branched cast-iron finial; and left of
this, a sashed window under a gablet with wooden finial. The
front gable wall has a stone mullioned 2-light sashed window,
and panelled barge-boarding. The south facade has a short wing
with similar window and barge boards, and two unequal sashed
windows, the larger under a gablet like that at the front. All
windows have moulded stone surrounds. Chimney on ridge of main
range, another at crossing, both with weathered bases and tall
octagonal shafts (the latter coupled) with moulded stone caps.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms group with associated entrance gateway (qv) and main
school building (qv).
