Leetham Monument

GV II

Grave monument. To members of the Leetham family. First
interment was that of Henry Ernest Leetham, d.1861. Stone.
Squat obelisk raised on square pedestal and 3 steps, and
occupying several grave plots bounded by moulded kerbing.
Pedestal is buttressed at the corners by diagonal fluted
pilasters supporting a moulded cornice and each surmounted by
a sculpted standing angel. Between, each face is a recessed
panel beneath a keyed moulded semicircular arch and frieze
panel carved variously with garlands of fruit or flowers, or
swags with ribbons. Upper part is a concave tapered obelisk,
covered with carved strapwork, and with a standing angel
finial at the apex. One side panel is inscribed with the names
of Henry Leetham, d.1896; Mary, his wife, d.1919; and Sidney
Leetham, d.1929: a second with the names of Henry Ernest
Lewetham, d.1861; and Mary Hannah, his wife, d.1920. The names
of other members of the family are recorded on the steps.
