Two houses, now bank and house. c.1740 to left (No.16) for Edward Ryres, town
clerk of Woodstock; mid C19 refronting of C18 house to right (No.14). No.16 of
limestone ashlar; gabled Welsh slate roof; brick end stacks. L-plan with rear
left wing. Mid Georgian style. 3 storeys; 4-window range. C18 six-panelled door
with overlight to right of centre, set in Doric pedimented doorcase with engaged
columns. Keyed flat stone arches over mid C18 six-pane sashes, with thick
glazing bars, and 2 late C18 six-pane sashes to right of first floor. Raised
storey bands and parapet. Mid C18 six-pane sash with thick glazing bars to rear.
Early C19 rear left wing, of 3 storeys with 6-pane sashes. Interior: mid C18
panelling to ground and first floors. Mid C18 fireplace with enriched surround
to left, and first-floor room to right has mid C18 fireplace with enriched eared
architrave with flanking pilasters. Quarter-turn stairs with winders to right,
with panelled dado and turned balusters set on closed string. No.16 to right, of
similar materials, has 2-storey, 3-window range front: keyed stone lintels over
C20 door to left, 2 plate-glass sashes and first-floor 6-pane sashes; raised
storey band and parapet. Interior: first floor not inspected.
