Footpath guidepost 130m north-west of Substation Cottages.

Footpath guidepost: late C19. Octagonal cast-iron post with plinth, moulded cap and
ball finial. Finger plate with nicked corners has raised inscription reading:

WIRRAL FOOTPATH ETC SOCIETY
PUBLIC FOOTPATH TO
UPTON
PLEASE KEEP TO THE PATH

The National Footpath Preservation Society was founded under the patronage of the
Duke of Westminster and others in 1884. This and a set of similar examples throughout
the Wirral must have been erected soon after.
