War memorial. 1921. Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield.
Portland stone memorial, incorporating central 'cross of
sacrifice', with octagonal shaft and arms, with bronze sword
fixed to face. Base of diminishing octagonal offsets, rising
from central plinth. Screen walls, left and right, incorporate
cast panels with fossil aggregate, with lead lettering
recording names of the casualties. Return ends in Portland
stone, with offset coping with segmental curved profile top,
and moulded pilaster bases. Base of memorial has raised curved
Portland stone step, and red brick herringbone-pattern paving.
