Description

TQ 64 SE BRENCHLEY BRENCHLEY ROAD, WALNUT TREE

6/52 Chapel Cottage

GV II

Small cottage. Probably C19. Weatherboarded with a slate roof and brick
stack.

Plan: An extremely small cottage consisting of one heated room with rear and
left and right outshuts. The outshuts are said slightly to postdate the
cottage (information from the owner).

Exterior: The cottage faces north west and is slightly set back from the
road. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front plus identical left and right
outshuts under lean-to roofs. Main roof gabled at ends. Central panelled
front door, probably C19, with a gabled porch with lattice sides and a pendant
at the apex. 2 first and 2 ground floor 2-light transomed casements, one
similar window to each outshut.

Interior: Not inspected.

Unspoiled cottages as small as this are extremely rare. Group value with the
former chapel to the north.
