SS 21 SW BUDE-STRATTON CHURCH SQUARE, STRATTON

3/165 Church Cottage (formerly listed as
5.3.52 one of Nos.1 & 2, Church Street)

GV II

House. C16 origins, late C20 alterations. Stone rubble with deep steeply-pitched
slate roof, brick chimney at right gable end. C16 build formerly part of house
adjoining at west (q.v.) which may have been guildhouse. Front lateral stack
removed late C20. 2 storeys. 1 window front with off-centre C20 door under
slated canopy carried on brackets. Three 2-light C20 ground floor casements with
leaded panes, ground floor window left retains granite lintel from 2-light
mullioned window.
Interior. Ground floor has 1 massive chamfered C16 cross beam with wide runout
stops, axial beams replaced, second cross beam replaced probably late C20. Roof
widened to front. pegged principals without collars formerly had trenched
purlins, rafters mostly replaced. Blocked fireplace to first floor room right
said to have had cloam oven.
