Ice House North East of Conservatory

Ice House. Probably late C18. Coursed rubble sandstone. Set
into a trough in the ground and covered by a mound of earth.
Two long rectangular chambers. The entrance end has curved wing
walls flanking the segmental arched doorway. A short passage
leads into the first barrel vaulted chamber and a flat arched
doorway communicates with the second similar chamber. Segmental
arched opening at the far end. Each chamber has two circular
shoot holes in the roof.
