War memorial, by sculptor T. Harold Hughes, 1923. Erected 1924.
Granite and Portland stone with
bronze railings. Stepped base carrying a pylon-shaped monument
with moulded plinth and plain cornice. The front face has an
attached credence, and above this an inscription and a coat of
arms in a wreath. In front of the pylon, a separate tapered
pedestal. On either side, a sloping coped wall, returned at
the ends to form square enclosures, and ending in pedestals
topped with urns. In front, low bronze railings enclosing a
garden, with posts in the form of lions' heads.
