TM2632NW WELLINGTON ROAD 609-1/2/113 (North West side) No.1 Wellington House

GV II

House. C19 of earlier origins. Brick with ashlared render and hipped roof of C20 machine-made clay plain tiles. Red brick is exposed on rear with plaster quoins at east corner. 3 storeys with cellars and 2-storey part with parapet to NE. EXTERIOR: second floor and first floor have a double-hung sash with small panes, slightly recessed either side of similar narrower window. Ground floor has 2 similar windows and central recessed door with semicircular-arched head with radiating pattern fanlight and impost blocks. Door with 6 raised-and-fielded panels with reeded and blocked frames. Cast-iron cellar vent and 4 cast-iron tie rod plates. Lower part has, on the first floor, a similar double-hung sash window. Ground floor has C19 shop front. Large rebuilt stack on NE flank and, below this, an iron hoist bracket with pulleys. Formerly a 2-storey building possibly raised in 1852.
