Description

TIDENHAM BEACHLEY ROAD, Beachley
ST 59 SE
(west side)
13/224 School Room adjoining
Church of St John
GV II
School room and small cottage, now club house. Mid C19. Squared and coursed lime-
stone, Welsh slate gable to street and hipped roof to cottage, set back, right.
School room has 2 deep-set single casements in chamfered surrounds flanking a Tudor
door opening in square head with sunk spandrels, plank and vertical batten door
up 3 steps; above this an unworked shield in the gable. To left is outshut under
swept-down roof with single casement to road and triple casement on return. The
cottage, right, has Yorkshire horizontal sash in 12 + 12 panes, over 2-light plain
casement, and plank and vertical batton door in internal angle. A very fittingly
modest architectural complement to St John's Church (qv) and of historical interest
to this community.
