SX 99 NE POLTIMORE

House. C17. Cob, stone plinth, roughcast, under gabled-end thatched roof.
Possibly a former 3-room, cross passage plan with front wing. External left-hand
end stack to main range; external right-hand lateral stack to wing. 2 storeys.
Front: One 3-light window to both floors of main range, 8 panes per light, with
C20 thatched porch; left-hand face of wing with one 3-light window above, one 2
and one 3-light window to ground-floor, the latter with hood moulds (detail
obscured by roughcast, but probably C19; cf similar features on other Poltimore
estate buildings, eg. The Old Smithy, Church View, q.v.). Buttressing to front
of wing with small 2-light window; similar window to left of wing stack. 3 C19
casement windows to right-hand end of main range. Rear with slated lean-to; two
2-light, flat-faced timber mullioned windows. Ovolo moulded beam and fireplace
lintel visible in left-hand room.
