6/49 Stable block north-east of the
- Rectory including wall to the
stable yard and walls to the
kitchen garden to the east
GV II
Stable block, wall to stable yard and kitchen garden walls at the Rectory (q.v.).
Probably 1836, the date of the house, although the stable yard wall (partly cob) may
be earlier and the stable has minor alterations of the late C19. Stable block
roughcast stone rubble with a slate roof, gabled at ends, some brick dressings; rear
left stack with a brick shaft. Stone rubble kitchen garden walls with slate capping
and red ridge tiles; stable yard wall similar but roughcast cob on stone rubble
footings.
Plan: The north wall of the large rectangular kitchen garden behind (east of) the
Rectory extends along Parsonage Hill and continues to the west as the stable yard
wall. The stable, in the north-east corner of the stable yard, abuts the west wall
of the kitchen garden and is gable on to Parsonage Hill with a window overlooking the
lane.
Exterior: Stable with loft with a probably C19 plank door with an overlight to right
of centre flanked by C19 16-pane sash windows (some glazing bars missing from right
hand sash). C19 loft door above plank door, flanked by blind recesses. To the left,
a pair of C20 plank carriage doors below a C19 loft door. The left return, on to
Parsonage Hill, has a 4-pane C20 sash window with brick lintel and jambs. The stable
yard wall and kitchen garden walls are buttressed on both sides. The stable yard is
paved with pitched stones.
Interior: of stable not inspected.
Forms part of a very complete early C19 group which includes the well-preserved
Rectory.
