Pair of cottages. Probably C17 or early C18 with later C18 or C19
extension. Rendered, left side of front wing is slate hung on first
floor. Steeply pitched asbestos tile roof with gable ends abutting
adjoining houses and half-hipped end to front wing. Central axial stack
with short rendered shaft heightened in brick with slate cowels and
truncated stack on left side of front wing.
Plan: Pair of cottages, possibly originally one house. May Cottage on the
left is of 2 room plan with a central entrance, the right hand room
heated from an axial stack on the right. The Cottage on the right is of
one room plan in the main range probably also heated from the axial stack
and with a 1 room plan wing at the front with a lateral stack on its
left side.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front. Various C19 2-light
casements with glazing bars, the ground floor right hand window of May
Cottage is an horizontally sliding sash with glazing bars and the ground
floor right hand window of The Cottage has a 2 storey wing with a
truncated stack on the left side, a large late C19 or C20 sash on the
front wall and a C20 door the right hand side.
Interior: Only the roof structure is described. Straight principals with
halved lapped and pegged collars and trenched purlins. One truss over
The Cottage has small additional collar below the apex.
