GV II
Two attached houses and garden wall with railings. Circa 1800-1820. Rendered and
painted stone rubble, stuccoed on front elevation. Rag slate roof with hipped ends.
Diagonal brick axial chimney stacks arranged in groups of 3:4:3 along ridge.
Orchard House on left has a double depth plan with central cross passage, two
reception rooms on front and stair to rear of passage flanked by two small service
rooms; dairy on left and kitchen on right. Targon to right probably had an identical
plan.
2 storeys. Symmetrical overall four window front; each house has a central entrance
door in a two-centered arched opening, two sashes with intersecting glazing bars and
2-centred arched openings on ground floor and two similar sashes above. The sashes to
Orchard House on the left were replaced in the 1970s maintaining the original pattern
and the sashes to Targon were replaced with replicas in the circa late C19.
Interior Orchard house on left with plasterr cornice in hall decorated with egg and
dart motif. Early C19 fluted chimneypiece in left hand room; patent stone imitating
dark grey polished slate with slate mantle shelf. Dog-leg stair with square newels
and stick balusters. Segmental arch opening to two front bedrooms.
Interior of Targon not inspected.
Low stone rubble wall to front garden area with C19 iron-railings and four
contemporary iron gates.
