2/16 North gates to St
Boniface's Churchyard

GV II

Piers and gates, probably early C19, with restorations 1875, 1889 and
1910. Sandstone ashlar piers supporting timber and metal gates. The
piers are square on plan with ogee and ovalo moulded caps supporting
ball finials. Inscriptions on the piers give the dates of restoration
and the names Samuel Rutter & Richard Boffey also Maurice Hulse &
Albert Major - Church Wardens. The gates have stiles and three rails
of timber with vertical round fleur-de-lis topped rods passing through
the rails. They are hung on hook and band hinges and inscribed with
their date of replacement (1910).
