No. 2 Arch Lodge

Lodge to the Powderham Estate. Early C19 with late C20 extension. Whitewashed and
rendered, probably stone ; thatched roof, hipped at ends, axial stack in centre of
original block. Gothick.
Plan: single depth 2-room plan with a verandah on the south-west side ; C20 extension
on the south-east end.
Exterior: Single storey and attic. Symmetrical 3-bay front to the original block
with the thatch carried down as a catslide to a 3-bay verandah on posts with a
pitched stone floor below the verandah. Half-glazed pointed arched doors to left and
right with arched glazing doors; pointed arched window in centre; attic window in
thatch with arched glazing bars; 2 arched windows with arched glazing bars to the
left return. The thatched extension at the right end has re-used the original arched
windows from the right end wall of the original block.
Interior: Not inspected.
An attractive Gothic lodge, the extension in a sympathetic style.
