west of Bodenham Court
Farmhouse
GV II
Cowhouse and stables. C17, rebuilt circa 1833. Coursed sandstone rubble
with hipped corrugated metal roof. Roughly five bays aligned north/south.
Two levels. Main east elevation: there are three windows on the lower level
and three loft openings with cambered heads. There is a door in the second
bay, a stable door in the fourth bay and a double doorway in the fifth bay.
External steps at the north end lead up to a loft door with a cambered head.
Interior: the roof has a sling-brace-truss at the northern end. The south
end wall is probably part of the original C17 building as it it wider than
the present building and projects at each end. The building is situated adjacent
to Bodenham Court Farmhouse (qv). Included for group value. (Brian, Dr A:
The Houses of the Township of Bodenham Devereux and their inhabitants in the C19
and earlier, unpublished notes).
