Gatepier (east) approx. 330m S
of Fairgreen Farmhouse

Gatepier. Late C17 or early C18. Limestone ashlar. Square section with moulded
plinth and boldly projecting capping surmounted by swagged urn finial; scrolled
pilaster with moulded capital on east and west faces. Looks very similar to the
gatepiers to the north of Sarsden House (q.v.) shown in an engraving in
Kennett's Parochial Antiquities (1695). One of a pair at south end of drive to
east of Sarsden House abandoned before 1788.
