GV II

Congregational church, now meeting hall. 1840. Gault brick
with red-brick dressings and roof of concrete tiles.
EXTERIOR: entrance in south gable: central gabled porch with
shouldered parapet contains arched door flanked by single
lancet windows. Main elevation with one tall lancet right and
left of porch: over porch is stepped triplet of lancets with
oculus above. Saw-toothed cornice to parapeted gable.
Surviving original windows have intersecting tracery in the
head. 6-bay returns, each bay separated by buttress piers and
pierced by multiple-paned windows to ground floor and
Y-traceried upper windows.
INTERIOR: galleries to all four sides supported on cast-iron
reeded columns rising to cast-iron balustrading.
Scissor-braced roof, boarded. Raised dais at north end with 3
bays of blind arcading with modified stiff-leaf decoration.
