One or possibly 2 town houses, now shop, office and
accommodation. Mid C18, altered. Flemish bond brown brick with
grey slate roof, ridge parallel with front, hipped to Lower
Bridge Street, east.
EXTERIOR: basement and 3 storeys. Late C20 brick and timber
shopfront has small-pane window, recessed door and side
lights; inserted 6-pane fixed light; door; applied fascia
board. The second storey has a 3-course floorband and 5 almost
flush 12-pane sashes in 1; 2; 2 rhythm with painted stone
sills and cambered gauged-brick heads. The third storey has
3-course floorband and 5 sashes similar to those of the second
storey but a little smaller. Rusticated painted stone quoins
to east corner; brick parapet with moulded cornice; a
cast-iron rainwater pipe and head.
The east face to Lower Bridge Street has 8 steps down,
parallel with front, to former undercroft with lantern arch
and replaced rail; modern shopfront. The first, second and
third storey each has 2 nearly-flush 12-pane sashes, those to
the third storey a little smaller but of similar proportion;
rendered floorbands; sills, heads, parapet and cornice as to
Castle Street; rusticated quoins.
INTERIOR: the undercroft has a brick barrel vault of C18 type.
No.3 has closed string stair with turned balusters from second
to third storey.
