Description

ST 99 70 CALNE LINDEN CLOSE

755/15/10003 No. 3

GV II

House. Mid C18, refronted c1830-50. Coursed limestone rubble with stone slate roof and brick end stacks. 2 storeys; 3-window front. Timber lintels over panelled front door and 6/6-pane sashes. INTERIOR: chamfered beams, timber-framed partitions, dog-leg stair with turned balusters and collar truss roof with staggered purlins survive from mid C18 period. Details surviving from C19 remodelling include fu-st-floor left fireplace with cast-iron hob in stone surround, and panelled doors and shutters in moulded wood architraves. A good example of a Cl 9 refronting which has left the plan form and major internal features of a small C18 house in a complete state. Attached to 1 Linden Close, Silver Street, to rear (see item 139).
