Holly Cottage

GV II

Semi-detached house. Mid C18. Brown brick; eastern return with
C20 weatherboarding. Tiled hipped roof. C20 Georgian style
doorcase with bracketed open pediment and architraved doorway
with half glazed door. Gauged red brick flat arches to
recessed sashes with exposed boxing. Parapet.
INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORICAL NOTE: Ford Maddox Brown
included this house in his painting "Work", 1852, inspired by
seeing navvies at work on Hampstead's main drainage. He lodged
here in 1883.
