War Memorial. 1924. Designed by J.and H. Patterson of Manchester for the Farnworth Urban District Council. Ashlar Stanton gritstone column, surmounted by a bronze sculpture. Tapered square shaft rising from a deep plinth set upon 2 octagonal stone steps. At the head of the shaft, laurel wreaths, signifying victory, and reward for sacrifice. Stepped cap with squared plinth supports bronze sculpture of a female figure crowned with laurel, blowing the Trumpet Of Fame, whilst holding a wreath . The front (south) face of the column plinth carries a rectangular plaque bearing the inscription ' They died that we might live. 1914- 1918.' The other faces carry panels commemorating the fallen of the 2 World Wars.
