Terrace of 5 houses and attached railings. Numbered right to
left, described left to right. c1824, with later additions and
alterations. Pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco facades,
Welsh slate roofs to Nos 36, 42 and 44, otherwise cement
tiles.
2 storeys with basements, 10 first-floor windows. House to
left projects. First floor: 6/6 sashes throughout with sills
and plain reveals. Cornice, low parapet.
Ground floor: 3 steps to side entrances, 4-panel doors, some
part-glazed, with overlights, tooled architraves. Bay windows
canted from basement to ground floor have 6/6 sashes between
2/2 sashes except to No.42 are 1/1 sashes, 9-pane fixed
lights, casements and part-glazed doors to basement. Ridge and
end stacks.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings and to sides of steps.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Portland Place was laid out in 1823-1824.
