House. c1832, with later additions and alterations.
Pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco facades, Welsh slate
roof and cast-iron balconies.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 3 first-floor windows with
deeply-recessed bay to left.
First floor: two 6/6 sashes with moulded surrounds and sills;
tall 3/6 sash with moulded surround, blind box.
Second floor: two 3/6 sashes, blind opening, all within
moulded surrounds and with sills. Cornice, blocking course.
Ground floor: 4 steps to central entrance a part-glazed door,
the lower panel roll-moulded, with divided overlight within
projecting porch of 2 Doric pillars, plain frieze, cornice,
blocking course. Canted bay windows have 2/2 between 1/1
sashes, modillion cornices. Left recess has small 6-light
casement to ground floor. All windows have plain reveals. Roof
hipped to right. Off-centre, side and rear stacks. First floor
has balcony to right window with double-rod-and-anthemion
motif.
Right return to Portland Place East of 3 storeys, 2
first-floor windows. First floor has tall 6/9 sashes, moulded
surrounds and blind boxes. Second floor has fixed 9-light
window and 3/6 sash, moulded surrounds, sills. Ground floor
has 6/6 sashes, sills. All with plain reveals. First floor has
individual balconies to each window with
double-rod-and-anthemion motif.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Dale Street was laid out c1832, the east side
was built by 1834.
Occupies a corner site with Portland Place.
