Heath End Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Later C17 with earlier C19 alterations and
extension. Timber-frame with brick infill and brick
refronting; tile roof with 2 brick cross-axial stacks with
diagonal shafts and caps. 3-unit plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3-window range. Stone plinth and top
modillioned brick cornice; recessed right-end unit.
Segmental-headed entrance to right of centre has lean-to
canopy over plank door; signs of blocked entrance to left.
Windows have tile sills; ground floor has central
segmental-headed window, formerly wider, with 3-light
casement, window to left with rubbed brick cambered arch over
3-light small-paned glazing with iron opening casement, and
window to right with rubbed brick cambered arch over 3-light
casement; first floor has central window with 4-light
small-paned glazing with iron opening casement, windows to
left and right with 3-light casements, that to right with
rubbed brick cambered arch. Gabled roof.
Left return has high brick plinth to 3-panel-high square
framing. Rear has square framing but left-end unit of brick
with top modillioned brick casement; single-storey gabled
projection has through passageway adjoining early C19 stable
and a small lean-to projection to left.
Entrance to right of centre has 3-light small-paned casement
to its right, now in late C20 glazed sun room; 2-light window
over projection; left end has window with rubbed brick
cambered arch over 3-light casement to each floor.
Right return is timber-framed with attached late C18 and early
C19 stable and cart sheds.
INTERIOR: large broadly-chamfered beams and timber-framed
cross wall to left of entrance passage; large fireplace with
bressumer to right end room.
