House on corner site. Mid to late C18. Rendered with Doulting
stone dressings, Welsh slate roof behind parapets, brick
chimney stacks.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and basement, 5 bay east elevation facing
Cathedral Church of St Andrew (qv). Plinth, plain end
pilasters, cornice, parapet with plain coping. Sash windows in
plain openings, 12-pane to ground and first floor and 6-pane
to second floor, some windows being blind. Central 6-panel
door with rectangular fanlight having ornamented cast-iron
glazing bars, some radial, the whole framed with stone
doorcase having attached Doric columns, full entablature and
pediment. North return elevation to Cathedral Green in 3 bays
to match.
INTERIOR: not inspected, but lower windows have panelled
shutters.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: extending from the centre of the flank of
No.25 Market Place (qv), starting with a quarter curve,
extending along front of house about 2m away, with return
along Cathedral Green, a low stone plinth with wrought-iron
railings having necked tops to rails, and cast-iron finials to
standards, with gate opposite doorway, adding to the setting
of the house and the streetscape generally.
