Pair of houses, now shops with accommodation above. c1840s.
Mass wall construction; stucco and blocked out. Slate roofs
with gabled ends. axial chimney stacks with brick shafts and
old pots.
PLAN: double-depth; ground floors gutted for C20 shop use.
Entrance to first floor at front left.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; symmetrical, 2:2-window front. Deep eaves
carried on moulded eaves band. Continuous fascia and cornice
to shop front with pilasters with incised Greek key decoration
to left, right and centre. Plate glass early C20 shop windows
with moulded mullions. C20 shop doors with overlights.
Recessed 6-panel C19 front door with fielded panels and deep
overlight to right. All windows glazed with late C19-early C20
4-pane horned sashes.
INTERIOR: not inspected but may retain some features of
interest. No.16 may contain one arcade post of the 1731 market
house (qv).
