Gate-piers, walls, gates and railings. Early C19.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, cut stone, wrought iron.
EXTERIOR: Centred to villas pair of square ashlar piers with double sunk panels and central roundel to each face, with blocking to reeded edge and low cross roll gabled cappings, containing pair of gates with pointed rails and dog bars, to central standard with scroll embellishments, sustained by raking prop to rear. Each side has length of simple pointed railings to height of gatehead, on coped wall in squared stone, which rises to full height in outer sections. Gates open to stone landing and divided flights of stone steps contained by inner retaining wall, rises to high swept centre in ashlar with plain coping, running back from this to centre party division is wall in rough coursed stone. Left party wall shared with No.50 (qv), but to right wall returns, following steep slope of access lane, to end party wall. Ensemble an important adjunct to these houses, with walls and railings continuing to left, encloses Lyncombe Hill on west side, with townscape value.
